It is about 2,700 kilometers from Easter Island, which has a population of approximately 7,750 residents (Wikipedia). <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"356\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Easter_Island_map-en.svg.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10674\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Easter_Island_map-en.svg.png 500w, https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Easter_Island_map-en.svg-300x214.png 300w, https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Easter_Island_map-en.svg-281x200.png 281w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Easter Island. The location of the Moai statues is visible. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Easter Island is of great archaeological interest due to the presence of monumental-sized carved figures, the gigantic stone statues known as Moai. Their heights range from 2.5 to 10 meters. Many of these statues are unfinished. Why? It truly is worth pondering.  <\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/CEMETRY-1.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/CEMETRY-1.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/CEMETRY-1-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/www.uni-mag.gr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/CEMETRY-1-200x200.jpeg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/figure>\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<p>Additionally, the area around Point Nemo is the satellite graveyard. What happens to satellites when they &#8220;die&#8221; and can no longer function? One solution is to re-enter Earth&#8217;s atmosphere. Upon re-entry, they ignite and disintegrate, similar to shooting stars.  <br\/>However, if they are large, like the International Space Station, they are &#8220;dropped&#8221; into the satellite graveyard located at Point Nemo. There lies the Mir Space Station along with a total of 263 other pieces of space debris (2024, Wikipedia).
