It lies between the orbits of the planets Mars and Jupiter. This belt contains the majority of the asteroids in the Solar System. They are solid, irregularly shaped bodies of various sizes, much smaller than planets.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>98 Ianthi:<\/strong> This is where we live! Right here in the belt\u2014along with 71 Niobe and 6354 Vangelis. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>431 Nefeli:<\/strong> Are we throwing a party at our place (the Asteroid Belt) this Saturday?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>98 Ianthi:<\/strong> Who should we invite?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>431 Nefeli:<\/strong> First of all, we should tell 71 Niobe, she lives right next door.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>98 Ianthi<\/strong>: We\u2019ll have music at the party, right?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adrianos<\/strong>: Let\u2019s invite the musician 6354 Vangelis!<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>98 Ianthi:<\/strong> I love his music from <em>Chariots of Fire:<br\/><\/em><a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PZnodJJ7l_I\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PZnodJJ7l_I<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>431 Nefeli:<\/strong> But I\u2019ve got a big question\u2014how was the Asteroid Belt formed, and how did we end up inside it?<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Adrianos<\/strong>: People used to think there was a planet there that exploded into tiny asteroids like you. <strong>But that\u2019s not true.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>98 Ianthi:<\/strong> I saw in a documentary that, when the Solar System was forming, a planet was supposed to form at our distance from the Sun. But Jupiter\u2019s gravity didn\u2019t let it happen.
