CAPTAIN GG: Water & Balance<\/h4>\n\n

Little A: I have a question. Shall I tell her? <\/p>\n\n

Captain GG: We are all ears. <\/p>\n\n

Little A: How come when I throw a stone into the sea it goes to the bottom of the sea? But a ship with lots of cars, food and people does not go to the bottom.<\/p>\n\n

Daphne: Here’s a nice question for our captain!<\/p>\n\n

Captain GG: It’s very interesting, little A. The answer lies in the word density. For a ship to float, its density must be less than the density of the water.<\/p>\n\n

Mr .A: That is, the density of a whole ship to float must be less than about 1 gr\/cm3, which is the density of water. <\/p>\n\n

Dad: Correct me if I remember correctly, density is defined as the mass of the ship divided by the volume of the ship. <\/p>\n\n

Captain GG: This quotient must be small to reach the density of water. Since we cannot reduce the mass of the ship, what should we do? <\/p>\n\n

Mr. A: Should we increase its volume? <\/p>\n\n

Captain GG: The ships are filled with vacuum air. They are not made of solid metal. <\/p>\n\n

Little A: Something like Swiss cheese that’s full of holes.<\/p>\n\n

Mom: The Emmental.<\/p>\n\n

Daphne: Great cheese! So the ships to float and be able to take us to the islands are like this delicious cheese. <\/p>\n

Mr.A: Also to state the obvious that, in order to go to the islands by boat and take baths in the summer, logically our Earth must have a sea!<\/p>\n\n

Dad: Have you imagined what our Earth would be like without its seas?<\/p>\n\n

Little A: Doesn’t she look a little scary without water?<\/p>\n\n

Daphne: I can barely see Greece. <\/p>\n\n

Mr. A: And I barely see Spain. <\/p>\n\n

Mom: Isn’t that what the surface of the planet Mars looks like now?<\/p>\n\n

Mr. A: Actually, it is speculated that the planet Mars used to have water flowing. <\/p>\n\n

Daphne: We need to find out what happened and lost it.<\/p>\n\n

Mr. A: He lost his magnetic field as well. <\/p>\n\n

Daphne: We don’t know yet (2023) if these two events are related. But we are trying to find. <\/p>\n\n

Dad: I understand that there are investigations going on all the time. We’ve even sent rovers from Earth to investigate. These rovers have 2 more wheels than our cars! Watch the next video which is in Greek.<\/p>\n\n

Little A: Let’s go eat fried squid while there are squid. If the Earth, like Mars, loses its seas, we won’t have squid to eat. Let’s take care of our Earth as much as we can.<\/p>\n\n
